Why the Lions should play against Brazil’s Olympic team (TODAY, 23 July 2008)

Letter from Chong Wee Pin

I AM excited at the prospect of Brazil’s Olympic Team coming to Singapore for a friendly match.

This clearly shows that we are going in the right direction as a sporting hub.

On the other hand, I am disappointed that the National Team will not be selected to play against the Brazilians.

No doubt, the foreign players in the S-League selection will be able to strengthen the squad. However, the team spirit and understanding between the Lions that have been forged by coach Radojko Avramovic over the years make them a stronger unit than any other squad.

Furthermore, this is an excellent chance for us to test our Lions against some of the world’s best. I sincerely hope that the Football Association of Singapore will pick the National Team to play the friendly.

The excitement of watching the Lions play against the Samba princes will create much more enthusiasm than if an S-League Selection is chosen.
